When Andrew met The Fish Box!
We’re often asked by guests where to buy good quality, local produce or where is good to visit or shop. We love sharing our local knowledge and recommendations – all personally experienced by ourselves – so thought we’d introduce our local fish van, The Fish Box from Woodbridge, based 5 minutes away in the market town of Hadleigh on a Thursday morning from 9am until 2pm.
We visit Laurie on the fish van, the mobile part of The Fish Box that travels to neighbouring villages throughout the week, on a weekly basis to get our fix of quality, fresh fish. Full of helpful advice, recommendations and friendly chat, it’s a real pleasure to recommend this traditional, family run fishmonger.
Laurie works alongside his father, Paul, who worked on the fish market since leaving school and took over the family business in 2005, and runs the mobile outlets of The Fish Box. Selecting the highest quality fish is of utmost importance to Laurie and his father so they hand pick each piece of fish from several wholesale merchants at the fish markets each day and from the traditional smokehouses in Lowestoft where they select their hot and cold smoked produce. One of the core values of The Fish Box is supporting local suppliers and sustainable fishing methods where possible.
And this shows…their fish and shell fish is high quality, local and seasonal produce. An excellent selection too – you’ll be spoilt for choice! You’ll find Laurie on the corner of Magdalen Road and the B1070 road coming into the Hadleigh High Street, behind the Kings Head pub. There is free parking in the Magdalen Road car park on the opposite side of the road.
