Family Business with the Personal Touch

About Us

Your Host Andrew

Andrew grew up on Northlands Farm in Hintlesham, near Ipswich, and is the third generation of the family to be involved in farming.  After finishing school Andrew travelled the world and developed a passion for the tourism industry.

He went on to study Tourism & Management at university then worked for 10 years in an events and motivation business running global conferences, events and helping improve business’s customer service.  Andrew also spent several years designing and hosting luxury “money can’t buy” incentive travel programmes for corporate groups all around the world.

Andrew returned to the family farm in 2007, reinstating a wide range of livestock and converting a listed barn into a new family home. Using his knowledge of tourism and his vast experience of creating bespoke events he then started The Suffolk Escape with his wife Sarah.

First they dug a new lake and built the four log around it launching in 2013, then in 2017 finished converting the Sheepyard Barn to offer a self catering holiday solution for families and bigger groups.

Customer Experience Focus

As the Suffolk Escape is a small, family run, business and with Andrew’s experience in customer service we are able us to offer a holiday where the customer is at the heart of everything we do. We have a map of our customer’s journey from first thinking of a holiday, right through their stay with us and we look at every contact point, communication and information to ensure we optimise every element to give our guests the very best experience.

We believe it is vital to listen to our guests and react to that as they often have the best ideas.  We designed our Sheepyard Barn with lots of input and ideas from past guests which we believe is a key reason guests love the barn so much and why it won “Best Self Catering Property” in England as well as being awarded ‘Gold’ for Self Catering Accommodation of the Year’ at the East of England Tourism Awards.

Team Work

One of the most important elements to The Suffolk Escape is the fantastic team who help run it. Jess in the office does an incredible job pulling the holidays together and has a huge passion for customer service and Suffolk.

Our team who help manage the log cabin and barn on changeover do an outstanding job and really care about getting the properties looking perfect for the next guests.  We work to an ethos that every guest should like the first guest to enter the property.

Your Host Sarah

Sarah was brought up on her family’s farm in Suffolk, just 15miles from The Suffolk Escape, where she developed a passion for livestock and the countryside.  After school she studied at Bristol University to fulfill her ambition to become a vet. Five years later on and the pull of the Suffolk countryside brought her back to her roots, where, apart from a short spell as a locum in Dorset, she has lived and worked ever since. Sarah currently works in the local practice, dividing her time between veterinary work, managing the livestock on the farm, helping run the Suffolk Escape and being a mum.

Yours Little Hosts

Andrew and Sarah’s three young children, Annabel, William and Harriet can often be seen helping their parents out on the farm and around the business.  Annabel hopes to one day follow in her mum’s footsteps and become a vet whilst William’s love of the outdoors and building things will likely see him involved in the farm or perhaps engineering. The youngest of the family, Harriet, is at the age of being into everything and anything, and keeping everyone on their toes!

Our Awards: The Suffolk Escape has won several awards but we are most proud of being awarded the “Best Self Catering Property” in England for 2018 by Visit England. It is a great recognition of all the hard work that went into its creation and the ongoing work by our team with thanks to our past guests for their input in the design of the property.

Trip Advisor: Equally we are very proud of our Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor which we have been awarded every year since opening. This is especially important as it is based on the feedback from our customers on their experience.  This feedback is hugely important to the whole team and we are thrilled that we still hold a 100% score of 5/5, which is great recognition of the whole team’s work who we reward with quarterly fun nights out to thank them.
