Food lovers will be spoilt for choice by the numerous award winning, fine dining restaurants and traditional country pubs Suffolk has to offer. The list below offers something to suit all tastes (our three of our favourites are Bell Inn, Kersey, Bildeston Crown and The Boathouse at Dedham):

HINTLESHAM HALL, IP8 3NS (1.5 miles, 4 mins)

Only a stone’s throw from your log cabin, why not stroll across the fields for a fine dining experience and an award winning wine list in the Grade 1 Listed Elizabethan Manor house of Hintlesham Hall. This is also an elegant spot for morning coffee or afternoon tea.

HINTLESHAM GOLF CLUB, IP8 3NS (1.5 miles, 4 mins)

The Hintlesham Hall Golf Club offers a less formal place to dine, and has a pleasant veranda overlooking the golf course, perfet in warmer weather. It is only a short drive or a wonderful country walk through our farm, to their club house.

KINGS HEAD, HADLEIGH, IP7 5EF (4 miles, 8 mins)

Situated on the high street of our historic local town, Hadleigh. Offering a good regular menu, an ever changing specials board as well as popular themed weeks, including Lobster, Shellfish and Game week.

BELL INN, KERSEY, IP7 6DY (6 miles, 10 mins)

Located in the most picturesque village in Suffolk, the Bell is a rarity with the explosion of “gastro” pubs as it still serves home-cooked, traditional pub food with a really warm welcome and the locals still drink here!

THE BILDESTON CROWN, IP7 7EB (8 miles, 15 mins)

A food lovers heaven with a range of dining options including the full eight course Taster menu. Enjoy the beautiful setting of this 15th century Grade II listed timber framed Coaching Inn.

THE BILDESTON KINGS HEAD, IP7 7ED (8 miles, 15 mins)

An award winning traditional Grade II listed freehouse, run by Nigel & Sue, dating from around 1530 and heavily timbered inside with an inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove.  They serve good home cooked food using local produce where possible and the real icing on the cake is their selection of beers including several real ales brewed onsite in the old cartlodge.

THE RED ROSE, LINDSEY, IP7 6PP (8 miles, 15 mins)

A 15th Century Hall House and one of the county’s oldest pubs. The menu is comprised of local and seasonal ingredients, in particular the meat, which comes from the owners own Red Poll cattle and Suffolk sheep, just a few miles away.

AQUA EIGHT, IPSWICH, IP1 1DQ (7 miles, 15 mins)

A stylish modern restaurant with an innovative fusion of cuisine from across East Asia.


East Anglia’s first and only exclusively vegetarian pub, The Veggie Red Lion has become a destination for vegetarians and vegans countrywide. Meat eaters are welcome too, with the restaurant’s aim to ‘surprise and delight them even more!’

THE SUFFOLK FOOD HALL, IPSWICH, IP9 2AB (9 miles, 18 mins)

The Cookhouse Restaurant at the Suffolk Food Hall is a new arrival on the food scene in Suffolk. Diners can enjoy stunning views down the River Orwell whilst enjoying traditional British cuisine with a contemporary twist, for lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch.

THE GREAT HOUSE, LAVENHAM, CO10 9QZ (12 miles, 20 mins)

Set in the market place in the beautiful medieval village of Lavenham ‘The Great House’ offers French Cuisine at its finest. The reviews speak for themselves, including  AA Gold Award & Inspectors’ choice Award 2016, 3 AA rosettes for food and “Britain’s Top 100 Restaurants’ Sunday Times 2015. Eat in the charming old world dining room or in warmer weather enjoy al fresco dining in the stone paved courtyard.  

THE CROWN, STOKE BY NAYLAND, CO6 4SE (10 miles, 20 mins)

Located in the picturesque village of Stoke by Nayland, in the heart of constable country, the Crown offers a warm welcome and fantastic bistro style food.


This popular waterside eatery produces dishes that are ‘modern, and always surprise with a curious twist of something deliciously different.’ Head chef Simon Baker is passionate about supporting Suffolk’s smallholders and independent producers.

MILSOMS, DEDHAM, CO7 6HW (14 miles, 20 mins)

A stylish and contemporary bar and brasserie with a no booking policy but all day dining. Enjoy ‘global’ cuisine in the relaxed surrounds of the two-tiered restaurant, or outside in the heated terrace area. The chefs take influences from all over the world, as well as offering daily specials which take advantage of the best local, seasonal produce.


Set in tranquil surroundings on the River Stour, The Boathouse menu offers a fusion of style and flavourswhich changes every 6-8 weeks. In warmer weather the wonderful outdoor dining area overlooking the river takes some beating.

THE SHIP, LEVINGTON, IP10 0LQ (15 miles, 23 mins)

A historic 13th Century pub, close to the Orwell Estuary, which combines all the atmosphere of a traditional Suffolk pub with a modern, stylish, British cuisine. The philosophy of their food is to produce traditional classics, using local ingredients, with their own ‘Ship Inn Twist.’

BUTT & OYSTER, PINN MILL, IP9 1JW (13 miles, 25 mins)

Situated in the hamlet of Pin Mill on the shores of the River Orwell, The Butt & Oyster is renowned for is good food, fine Suffolk ales and beautiful views.

CROWN, WOODBRIDGE, IP12 1AD (19 miles, 30 mins)

Diners can choose from a variety of distinctive eating spaces leading off a lavish glassed roof bar, ranging from a more formal brasserie style dining room to cosy sofas infront of the fire. The menu likewise offers a choice to suit the mood – reworked classic favourites, comfort food and more modern inventive dishes, combining real earthy flavour and arty refinement. Winners of 2 AA rosettes and featured in both the UK Michelin guides.

THE MOON & MUSHROOM, SWILLAND, IP6 9LR (11 miles, 30 mins)

A welcoming 16th Century pub with cosy open fires and an outdoor patio area. It is renowned for its range of cask ales and homemade dishes, which use ingredients from local suppliers, growers, farmers and gamekeepers. It has twice been awarded Suffolk Pub of the Year, by the Evening Star.

BUTLEY ORFORD OYSTERAGE, IP12 2LH (30 miles, 50 mins)

A very relaxed and simple restaurant owned and run by Pinneys of Orford, who supply it with fresh fish caught from their own boats in the North Sea, and also smoked fish from their famous smoke houses. They have grown oysters at Butley Creek since the 1950’s.


There are a two Indian and one Chinese restaurant where you can dine in situated in the nearby town of Hadleigh.
